About two miles to the west of this development is the site of the old White River Ute Indian Agency, where in 1879 Indian Agent Nathan C. Meeker, and his employees, were killed by the White River Ute Indians in one of the last Indian uprisings in the United States.  Many feel that Mr. Meeker got what he deserved.  The Utes were trying to protect their culture and their land from a tyrannical government.  A sad page in our history.
